Andrew E. Rouse, a longtime resident of Andover, Massachusetts, passed away surrounded by family at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston on February 5, 2025, following a stroke. Born in Fall River, MA, on June 22, 1948, he was the son of the late Leslie and Cremilda (Perry) Rouse. In addition to his beloved wife of 52 years, Karen M. (DeAngelis) Rouse, Andy is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law Rebecca J. Rouse and Francis D. Talbot of Washington, DC; son and daughter-in-law Matthew A. Rouse and Rebecca L. Rouse of Billerica, MA, grandchildren Benjamin Talbot and Rhea Rouse; and many nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by siblings Curtis Rouse of Mobile, AL, and Martha Watjus of Moss Point, MS; brother-in-law Philip DeAngelis and his wife Sandra of Burlington, CT; and sister-in-law Christine St. Jean and her husband Tim Heckel of Plymouth, MA. Andy was preceded in death by granddaughter Adelyn Grace Rouse, sister-in-law Sharon Rouse, and brother-in-law Ricky Watjus.
After graduating first in his class from Gulfport (MS) High School, Andy graduated cum laude from Harvard University with a Bachelor's degree in mathematics. He later earned a Master's degree in education from Tufts University and a Master's degree in computer science from Boston University. He taught first grade in Bedford, MA, before pursuing a career in software engineering at Lotus Development, IBM, and several software startups. Before retiring, Andy taught math at Lynnfield (MA) High School.
An enthusiastic conservationist, Andy served as an Overseer on the Andover Conservation Commission, and for years volunteered to help maintain the town's public trails. An avid hiker, he completed the Andover Village Improvement Society Challenge by hiking all 25 A.V.I.S. reservations. He was a longtime member of Mass Audubon and the Vermont Institute of Natural Science.
Together with his wife, children, and grandchildren, Andy spent much of his spare time in Quechee, VT, where he built a house and mowed his five-acre field every summer for 46 years. An avid traveler, Andy and his family and friends enjoyed years of exploring the world, including Europe, the UK, Peru, Brazil, Denmark, China, India, Morocco, Australia, New Zealand, and the U.S. He and his wife visited six of the New Seven Wonders of the World, and were planning to visit the seventh next year.
Contributions in Andy's memory may be made to Mass Audubon (), A.V.I.S. Andover (), or the American Cancer Society ().
Andy will be dearly missed. A celebration of his life will be held later this spring, with burial at the West Parish Garden Cemetery in Andover. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home of Andover. For additional information, please visit www.burkemagliozzi.com.

Karen, I just heard of Andy´s passing. It saddened me greatly. While he was a good friend, we had loss touch over the years. I regret that. I owe him a lot. I had been thinking of him recently. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. Kit Bowen (Baltimore)
