Mr. Andrew "Andy" Belvin Smoak, 75, beloved husband of 50 years to Mrs. Sue Quirk Smoak, entered into rest on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, in the comfort of his home.
Andy was born in Aiken, SC, to the late Heyward Leon and Nora Frances Samuels Smoak. He proudly and with honor served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era as an Aviation Technician 2nd Class and Search and Rescue Team member. After his military service, he worked as an aircraft mechanic at Augusta Aviation for four years. He then went to work for SCE&G where he retired as a diesel mechanic with thirty-one years of service. He was of the Southern Baptist faith and a member of the L.B.C. American Legion Post #153. Andy was a talented pianist, a gifted photographer and videographer who loved traveling with Sue. He loved working on his tractor and never met a tool or gadget he didn't "need" added to his collection. He could weave a story as good as anyone and was a real
prankster.
Left to cherish Andy's memory, along with his wife Sue, are his children, Palm Beach County Commissioner Marci Woodward (Michael), of Boca Raton, Florida, and Aaron Smoak (Elaine), of Graniteville, SC; two grandchildren, Tanner Smoak and Connor Smoak, one sibling, and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to everyone who helped care for Andy. You have a special place in our hearts for the love and care you showed us during these trying times. You were all a blessing and encouragement: V.A. Home Care, Seniors Helping Seniors, and Trinity Home Health Care.
The family will greet friends on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at 1:00pm at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3464 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville, SC 29829. A Celebration of Life service will be at 2 o'clock in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Dexter Lambert officiating. Inurnment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, South Carolina with military honors accorded by the United States Navy.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Whatley, Jack Burckhalter, Billy Aspinall, and Tommy Sims.
