It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Anees Hatim Kanorwala, age 40, on July 15, 2024.
Anees was born on February 19, 1984, in Pennsylvania and spent his formative years in Mandeville, Louisiana. From an early age, he displayed a keen intellect and a natural curiosity that would shape his future endeavors. He studied at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and earned his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
After graduation, a pivotal moment occurred when Anees embarked on a cruise in celebration of his hard work. On this voyage, he met the love of his life, Sarah Martin. Their connection was instant and profound, blossoming into a deep and enduring love. Anees and Sarah were married and were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Zarah, born in 2010, and Sofia, born in 2014. His family was his greatest source of pride and joy, and he cherished every moment he spent with them.
Anees's professional journey was marked by a commitment to excellence, a passion for lifelong learning, and a dedication to improving patient care. He completed his residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and later became a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS, where he led nationally recognized programs aimed at improving the lives of patients with diabetes. In addition, he simultaneously served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy, where he mentored and inspired the next generation of pharmacists.
In 2020, Anees and his family relocated to
Cary, North Carolina, where he assumed the role of Clinical Pharmacy Manager at Duke University Hospital. His ambition and commitment later led him to Novo Nordisk as a Medical Science Liaison for Hemoglobinopathies, where he continued to make a meaningful impact in the medical community.
Despite the demands of his career, Anees always prioritized his family. He had a special bond with his daughters and was deeply involved in their lives. Family trips were filled with adventure and laughter, creating memories that will be cherished forever. Anees's love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life, and he found immense joy in their happiness and success.
Anees was also a loyal and steadfast friend to many. He had a remarkable ability to see the good in everyone and was always willing to stand up for others. His sense of humor and infectious laughter could brighten even the darkest days. He was generous and always ready to lend a helping hand. He had a passion for live music, enjoying good food, and his favorite band was Metallica.
Anees is survived by his wife Sarah Kanorwala; his daughters Zarah and Sofia Kanorwala of
Cary, NC; his parents Hatim and Akila Kanorwala of Katy, TX; his sister Shama (Sarah) Kanorwala Ernst and brother-in-law Ehren Ernst of Houston, TX; and his loyal companion, Grover, the family's 20-year-old dog. In addition, he leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and kindness that will continue to inspire all who knew him and live in their hearts.
A service to celebrate Anees's life will be held at Wake Memorial Park in
Cary, NC on July 26, 2024.
