HAMPSTEAD - Anita Marie Jones (Wortman), 51, of Hampstead, NC, passed away unexpectedly and went to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, May 5, 2025. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at Jones Funeral Home, Holly Ridge Chapel.
Anita was born at the old Camp Lejeune Hospital on November 11, 1973, to Alfred and Belva Anne (Batts) Wortman.
As a young girl, she was often found outside climbing trees, playing with her many cousins or following her big brothers, Alfred and Brian around. In 1991, Anita graduated from Topsail High School. She went on to obtain her Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from UNCW and later her CPA license. On April 26, 1997, she married her high school sweetheart, David Jones, at a ceremony held at Barlow-Vista Baptist Church. Initially they lived in Surf City, but later moved to their forever home where they raised both of their children, Hunter and Alia.
There were so many things that brought Anita joy including her 20 year employment with UNCW in the Finance Department to tending to her beautiful flower and vegetable garden. She was always focused on others whether it be her children, friends, her fur babies or the light of her world, her granddaughter Flora. Anita's time was often spent with her momma, Anne Wortman, whether it be shopping, making Christmas candies, canning strawberry jam, putting up corn or going to church together every Sunday. It was at the church that Anita found her voice and shared her talent with the people of Faith Chapel Baptist Church.
Anita had the most incredible smile, infectious laugh, a servant's heart, and a giving spirit, especially to those in need. Although she is gone too soon, we will always be thankful for the years that she was with us. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by numerous family members, friends, colleagues and the community that she has called home for the past 51 years.
Anita leaves behind her husband of 28 years, David; her son and daughter-in-law Hunter and Grace of Holly Ridge; her daughter Alia of the home; mother Belva Anne Wortman of Sneads Ferry; brother and sister-in-law Alfred Jr and Bridget Wortman of Maple Hill; brother and sister-in-law Brian and Lee Wortman of Sneads Ferry; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Cindy and Richard Millis; mother-in-law Sandra Jones; and all of her beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends who were like family, and the only one who could call her Grammy, Flora Jones. She also leaves behind to cherish her memory her very dear friend, Cindy Kaiser, and her cousin, Merrie, who was more like a sister than a cousin to her.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Earl and Inez Batts, her father Alfred Wortman Sr, her beloved Aunt Audrey Viner, father-in-law Lonnie Jones and her niece, Hannah Millis.
The family asks that you remember Anita by doing for others, planting flowers in your garden or simply by smiling when you think about her endearing soul.
