It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anita Allyne Surrency, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left us on January 31, 2025. Born on August 15, 1957, in Daytona Beach, Florida, Anita was a vibrant soul whose spirit touched the lives of everyone around her.
Anita was the cherished daughter of Glynn and Staton Weeks. She grew up in a loving family that instilled in her the values of compassion, kindness, and dedication. After graduating from New Smyrna Beach High School in 1975, Anita began a career that would span over 45 years. She worked for 29 years in the banking industry, where her commitment to service and hard work set her apart. However, it was in her later years that she truly found her calling, spending the last 16 years of her career at Chisolm Elementary School. There, she discovered a passion for helping elementary school children, making a profound impact on their lives and the community.
On December 10, 1978, Anita married the love of her life, George Surrency. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter until George preceded her in death on February 14, 2007. Their bond was an enduring testament to true love, she continued to honor his memory in everything she did.
Anita is survived by her son, Matthew Surrency, and daughter-in-law, Christina Surrency. She was a proud grandmother to Tanner and Adalyn Surrency, who brought her immense joy. Her family was her world, and she never missed an opportunity to cheer them on at their sporting events. Whether it was Matt on the field or her grandchildren in their games, Anita was always front row with her trademark bright blue eyes sparkling and an unforgettable smile lighting up the stands.
She is also survived by her brother, Wayne Weeks, and sister-in-law, Patsy Weeks; her niece, Valerie Weeks; her nephew, Michael Weeks; and her sister-in-law, Margerie Killen. Anita's family was her greatest treasure, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Anita will always be remembered for her positive spirit and the warmth she brought into every room. She had an uncanny ability to uplift those around her, and her infectious smile will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A celebration of Anita's life will be held on March 2, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 4:00PM at Anglers Yacht Club in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. It will be an occasion to honor her legacy and share the fond memories that encapsulate the beautiful life she led.
As we bid farewell to Anita, we are reminded that her love, kindness, and laughter will always remain in our hearts. She leaves behind a legacy of love and a family that will carry her memory forward, ensuring that her spirit lives on in the lives she touched.
