Ann Pannepacker Balderston passed away peacefully at her home in Pennswood Village, surrounded by her loving family on May 17th, 2024.
A resident of Newtown PA, for 79 years, Ann was born in Brockton, MA on October 15th, 1933 to Cleon L. Pannepacker and Evelyn Grady Pannepacker. She grew up in the Burholme neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia and Langhorne, PA in her early childhood. Her family then moved to Newtown, where she graduated from Council Rock High School and went on to earn a degree in Secretarial Sciences and Business Administration from Rider College.
Ann began her career as a Medical Assistant for an ophthalmologist. In 1960, she met the love of her life, local farmer and businessman, Lester A. Balderston of Dolington, PA. They were married on April 14th, 1962, moved to a farm in Upper Makefield Township and went on to raise a family of 5 children and expand Lester's business ventures. As the children grew and became independent, Ann returned to work in various administrative positions for Metropolitan Life Insurance and Weidel Real Estate, until her retirement in 1994.
Ann was an active and dedicated volunteer. She loved Newtown and shared her time and considerable talents with many local organizations. She was active in Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, as well as an assistant librarian at Newtown Library Company for over 25 years. She was also a board member and treasurer of the Pickering Manor Auxiliary, a board member of the Newtown Parks and Recreation Committee, a board member of Newtown Shade Tree Commission and a member of the Newtown Historic Association. She was a member of Newtown Presbyterian Church for many years and served on the membership, newsletter and Aid for Friends committees. Most recently, Ann served as a member of the Flower committee and board member at large for the Pennswood Village Interdenominational Worship Congregation.
Ann was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother to her family and shared a unique, personal relationship with all of her children and grandchildren. She loved to travel and enjoyed many family vacations in the New England states and Long Beach Island, NJ, as well as trips overseas. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, handcrafts, the theatre and was an accomplished baker and cook. Upon Lester's untimely death in 1996, Ann moved from the farm to Newtown Borough where she bought and restored an old Victorian home that became the center of many happy family gatherings. Ann moved to Pennswood Village in 2014, where she enjoyed many activities and the close company of many good friends in her golden years.
She was preceded in death by her parents Cleon L. and Evelyn G. Pannepacker, her husband, Lester A. Balderston and her brother, David G. Pannepacker. She is survived by her brother, Cleon L.
