Susan A. Balderston, 68, of Brush, passed away on December 7, 2024, after a short battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
She was born April 2, 1956, in Brush, CO, to Wayne & Marilyn (Bruce) Small. Susan attended school in, and graduated from, Brush High School in 1974. She married David B. Balderston on November 2, 1974, and started a family.
In 1978, David & Susan started Balderston Builders. Together, they built beautiful homes in Colorado for 37 years. Susan was an active member of the Brush Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, East Morgan County Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Brush Library Board of Directors, and taught swimming lessons for Brush Recreation Department. She enjoyed golfing, camping, waterskiing, snow skiing, and motorcycling with her family. She invested countless hours supporting her girls' high school and collegiate volleyball careers.
Susan was a talented quilter. Her best friend, Brenda Ramey, introduced her to this lifelong passion for making beautiful items from fabric. She also enjoyed cross stitching, knitting, and embroidering.
After David's death in 2012, Susan was hired as a paraprofessional and worked until her passing for the Brush School District.
In 2013, she was introduced to a volunteer organization called Honor Flight Northern Colorado. She instantly fell in love with the mission and applied to become a Guardian. She was later promoted to Bus Commander. In 2019, she was handpicked to serve on the High Plains Honor Flight Board of Directors. She traveled to the nations capital fourteen times over a 10-year period, honoring more than 1,800 WWII, Korea, and Vietnam veterans.
Survivors include two daughters, Natosha (Matthew) Gorski of Chesapeake, VA, and Nicole (Dale) Meyer of Orlando, FL; her mother, Marilyn Small of Brush, CO; her brother, Kirk Small of Brighton, CO; and 4 grandchildren, Ava & Ryan Gorski and Addison & Quinn Meyer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Balderston; her father, Wayne Small; her sister, Sheryl Small; and her parents-in-law, Bernard Balderston and Jean (Balderston) Crowley.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Brush Secondary Campus Auditorium. The service will conclude at the school.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given in Susan's name to High Plains Honor Flight. Donations may be made online at www.highplainshonorflight.org or by mail to High Plains Honor Flight, P.O. Box 363, Ault, CO 80610. Please include Susan's name in the memo.

This is such a HUGE loss. She said her "cheesy" motto she shared with me when she was diagnosed was "I´m a Beetdigger! I will beat this"! She was the most giving and caring person I´d ever met. I was honored and blessed sharing life growing up with Susan in Brush but we got to share numerous flights as Guardians with Honor Flight Northern Colorado. Susan, you will be missed but NEVER forgotten! My prayers are with her family.
