It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Ann Denise Christy, Ph. D., P.E., who died surrounded by friends and family at The James Cancer Center ICU on Friday, October 3, 2025.
Born January 27, 1962, to Gordon and Jacqueline Christy. Ann cherished her family and her teaching career. She was a brilliant, beloved professor and Associate Dean and Director for Academic Programs; Professor of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, Professor of Engineering Education at The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. She particularly loved the scholarship of teaching and learning.
Ann loved things that go; from the hunt/jump horses she rode in her youth, to masted sailing ships, to anything with an engine. She was a real train and model train enthusiast, nerdy gamer, devoted sister, doting parent, book-loving, guitarist; playing both spiritual and parody songs, and a once-in-a-lifetime soul mate to her partner Nancy. Everyone who knew Ann was drawn to her warmth, light, and enjoyment of each day as it came. Ann had an immense passion for higher learning, and embracing her inner child.
Ann was a deeply spiritual person practicing meditation and prayer for decades. Since Covid, Ann faithfully participated in two weekly meditation zoom groups with wonderful, caring people.
The whimsical side of Ann loved board games, tabletop miniatures, Magic The Gathering, and going to Origins Gaming Conference and the Best Four Days of Gaming at GenCon.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents, and survived by her sister Susan Christy, wife Nancy Snyder, daughter Heidi (Derek) Saad, four grandsons, many cousins who were more like siblings, and special friend Caleb Moses, who brought the magic of Magic to her bedside.
