Ann (Szewnia) Domokos, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed
away peacefully on October 21, 2025 at 100 years and 6 months of age.
Ann is survived by her daughter Darlene (Carl) Bock, her son Daniel
(Cheryl) Domokos, her grandchildren Robert Bock, Emily Bock (Tony
Lewis), Nora Bock (Mark Lancaster), Jessica (Aaron) Michie, Brian
Domokos and his daughter Kalli Broyles.
She was predeceased by her husband Louis Domokos and her son John
L. Domokos.
Ann was born in Polish-occupied Ukraine on April 20, 1925, one of seven
children whose family worked a small farm. After Germany invaded Poland
in 1939, she was a victim of the Nazi forced labor resettlement program. At
17 years old, she was removed from her home and loaded onto boxcars
with thousands of others bound for Austria, where she became a farm
laborer.
When the war ended in 1945, she could have gone home, but she chose
to join the army. She drove military vehicles transporting supplies and
personnel. Eventually she ended up in England working in London and
other resort areas for about three years. She had fond memories of waking
up to the tolling of Big Ben and owning her own motorcycle there. When
she obtained sponsorship, she made her way to the United States, taking
the two week journey by ship to New York City. Soon after, Chicago
became her destination where she met her husband whom she married in
1952. Ann lived independently on the Northwest side of Chicago in the
same house for 69 years.
Gardening and playing cards were her passions. Her courage, strong will,
sense of humor and loving nature will be forever remembered by all who
knew her.
For those who wish to pay their respects, a Memorial Visitation will take place at Matz Mt. Prospect Funeral Chapel, located at 410 E Rand Rd, Mt Prospect, IL 60056, on November 12, 2025 from 9 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. A Memorial Service will follow that same day, November 12, 2025, beginning at 11:00 A.M. also at Matz Mt. Prospect Funeral Chapel.
