Ann Frances Mohr, a loving mother, wife, sister, grandmother and friend passed away on Tuesday, May 16, after a short illness. She was 74 years old.
Born in 1948 to George and Mary Heflrich in Bronx, NY. As a child, her family moved to Whitestone, where she attended Hunter High School, and Hunter College, She had a double major in mathematics and romance languages. One summer when they were kids, she ended up meeting the love of her life Kurt Mohr at Boosters Beach club. They got married in 1972, and moved to West Nyack, NY in 1976.
Ann worked for Avis Rental Cars, and Pan-Am airlines for many years. She was one of the few female computer programmers at this time. She developed a love for traveling and went all over Europe with her job. Her pride and joy were her two children (Eric and Douglas) and she became a wonderful stay at home mom, helping out with her kids nursey school co-op. As she got older, she got her masters degree in education and went back to work in the classroom teaching in Clarkstown and South Orangetown. She substituted in South Orangetown until the beginning of 2023 and cared for the community at Cottage Lane Elementary.
Ann was very active in the community. She loved the library. She loved reading, teaching, and learning. Crafts were a passion of hers. Whether it was crocheting or origami, she loved to go to the library to take classes and learn. She loved nature. Whether it was visiting the sick turtles at the hospital, or going birdwatching at Rockland Lake, she always was infatuated with nature. She would not miss a night of Jeopardy, and if she was not home at 7pm, she would make sure it was recorded and watched at a later date. As you can see, her passion was continuous learning. She also enjoyed her NY Times Sunday crossword puzzle every week, although they were never tough enough for her.
Ann enjoyed sports also. She had to, to keep up in conversations with her son and his friends. She enjoyed watching the Mets, and the Maryland Terrapins, or any team that had a bird mascot. It was a lot of painful games over the years, but she never stopped rooting for her teams.
Ann was most passionate about her family and friends. She loved being a mother and grandmother. She was known as "Grandma with the Books" and "Grandma with the tea" as she always brought books and always had a cup of tea, no matter where she went.
Ann is survived by her husband Kurt of West Nyack, NY with whom she spent 50 wonderful years of marriage. They were a loving, loyal, and devoted couple. She is also survived by her brother Raymond Helfrich, and her Son Douglas Mohr (Melissa), and her 2 grandchildren to whom she adored, Kevin and Caitlin. She is pre-deceased in death by her parents George and Mary Helfrich, as well as her son Eric. They will be waiting to give you a hug when you arrive.
Friends and family may attend a memorial and prayer service for Ann at the Sorce Funeral Home, West Nyack, NY, on Saturday May 20, 2023, from 2 pm - 5 pm.

I am truly saddened to learn of Ann's passing. Ann and I were students at Hunter College when we met in 1965. She was my "Big Sister" in our sorority (Kappa Delta Phi), and she was always there for me with a smile, a helping hand, or a sweet note. In November, 1968, on my wedding day in California, she suddenly appeared at my Aunt's house when I was getting ready to leave for the church. I was shocked -- and delighted -- that she would go out of her way to travel to San Jose just to be a support for me. But that was Ann. I am sorry that we lost touch during the many years since our college days. She was a very special woman, and I know she was cherished by all who knew her. My condolences to you all.

Ann was a caring mother, wife, friend and teacher. She always had a smile to share, a story to tell and an ear to listen. Ann made friends with everyone she met. I take comfort in knowing she is reunited with her beloved son Eric but know she will continue to watch over those she cared about especially Kurt, Douglas, Kevin, and Caitlin. You will be missed Ann! Rest in peace.

So sorry to hear about Ann's passing. Ann came in every Sat to pick up all her favorite crossword puzzles from the West Nyack Library. Ann also took out many children's books and it was always a pleasure to see and talk with her. Hopefully God will make sure there is a library up in heaven. I will miss her smile. Watch over your family and RIP. Love
