Ann "Nana" (Hormis) Sheldon, 95, of Kensington, widow of Ronald E. Sheldon, passed away Thursday (Sept 12, 2024) at her home. Born in New Britain, Ann has been a Kensington resident since 1991. A graduate of New Britain High School, Class of 1948, Ann was a member of St. Joseph's Church in New Britain and was a Eucharistic Minister for over 20 years.
Ann was a constant presence and source of joy for her whole family with a special penchant for a witty joke or a reassuring smile. She was known as everyone's Nana because of her compassion and gentle manner and as the matriarch of the family, having raised her daughter after her husband's untimely passing. She was as central to the family as the family was to her. In her free time, she enjoyed horror movies – the gorier the better, Jerry Springer, and large reuben sandwiches and a box of Buster Bars. She could reliably be found in her spot on the couch or in the candy aisle – with a tooth as sweet as her demeanor. Ann passed as she lived her life – surrounded by family.
Her surviving family includes her daughter, Marianne Chapman and her husband Brian of Kensington; five nieces, Joanne Chicker and her husband Tim of East Berlin; Debra Kusy of Kensington; Hannah Michalski of Berlin; Karen Pyne of Newington and Dori Hormis of Newington; three grandchildren, Ronald Chapman, Sarah Pasquini and her husband Daniel; and Rachel Chapman and her fiance Gavriel Cohn; three great grandsons, Jack, James and Maxwell; four grand nieces and grandnephews, Melissa and Jonathan Chicker, Linda Kidd, and Eric Pyne. Besides her husband Ronald, she was predeceased by an infant son, James Michael Sheldon; a brother, Sam Hormis and three sisters, Jennie Munyon, Judy Kusy and Mary Hormis.
A Graveside Service will be held Saturday (Sept 14, 2024) 9:30 AM at St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to South Kensington Fire Department, 1952 Chamberlain Highway, Kensington, CT 06037 or First Step Foundation, 150 SW 12th Ave., Suite 480, Pompano Beach, FL 33069.
