Anna Bush Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc. - Canandaigua on Jan. 6, 2026.
Canandaigua - Anna Nicodemus Bush, age 90, passed away peacefully at home, on Monday, January 5, 2026. She is survived by four children who will cherish her memory forever, Cynthia Nicodemus, Eric (Marilyn) Nicodemus, Paula (Jim) Santee and Michelle Nicodemus; four grandchildren, Ryan (Mariah) Nicodemus, Carl (Shealena) Hartwell, Olivia and Chloe Nicodemus; two great-grandchildren, Aveira and Ellory Hartwell. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard D. Bush in 2019; grandson, Mark Hartwell in 2018; and two siblings, Toni Morasch and Dora Knopick-Woitena.
Anna was born in Landshut, Germany, where she spent her first 19 years navigating difficult circumstances with resilience and determination. She came to the United States at age 19 to join her sister and family, learning English by watching black and white television. Soon after, she met and married Noble Nicodemus, with whom she raised their children. During those years, Anna worked tirelessly, waitressing and taking night shifts both locally and in Rochester, while the family made their home on Honeoye Lake.
In 1981, Anna married Richard Bush. Together they built a beautiful life, first on Conesus Lake and later in Okeechobee, Florida. Anna treasured her frequent trips back to Germany to visit her hometown, reconnect with family, and keep her heritage close to her heart.
A devoted wife, mother, Oma, and Great Oma, Anna lived a life filled with love, generosity, and unwavering strength. She was a proud Buffalo Bills fan, enjoyed music and dancing, and treasured time spent with family and friends. Anna was "the hostess with the mostess,". She attended the Cheshire Community Church.
The family sends a special thank you to her caregivers, for helping to keep Anna at home in her final days. She will be missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, January 17, at 11am, at the Cheshire Community Church, 4315 Rte. 21 South, Canandaigua. A reception will follow the service at the Cheshire Volunteer Fire Dept. Entombment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Rochester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ontario County Humane Society, 2976 Co. Rd. 48, Canandaigua, NY 14424. Arrangements are by Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc., Canandaigua. Condolences may be offered at www.johnsonkennedy.com.

I am saddened to learn of Anna's passing. My wife and I became friends with Anna and Richard many years ago in Okeechobee, Florida, where we always enjoyed the Octoberfest celebrations and "lip sync" musical events that they organized and participated in. Despite relocations over the years, we had stayed in touch with phone conversations and holiday cards and notes. I loved her stories about Fonzie, her beloved dog. Rest in peace, dear Anna. Sending condolences to the family on their loss.

We met Anna and her husband Dick one time. They were visiting her daughter Cindy in Mount Airy, NC. I remember how very elegant she was. Her smile was so warm and immediately made you feel loved. They had their small so well behaved little dog with them. We enjoyed a beautiful dinner that Cindy had made. But most of all the interesting conversations and laughter we all shared. Through the years she has been remembered with love.
For her family we pray the Lord will reside in their hearts during their grief. Bring memories to ease their days. And love to stay close as a family.
The peace of Christ fill each of you today and in the days to come.
