Ardessa Loretta Deputy, affectionately known as "Dessie," "Mom Dessie," and "Granny," passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2025, at the age of 84. She was born on November 3, 1940, in Friendship, Delaware, to Ardessa Mae Warren and Joseph Warren. Ardessa's life was a beautiful testament to love, service, and unwavering devotion to her family, friends, and faith.
Raised in Wyoming, Delaware, she attended Paul Lawrence Dunbar Elementary, Booker T. Washington Middle School, and William Henry High School. She retired in 1988 after a 25-year career at Playtex, and remained active in the community, helping friends and family with rides to work, appointments, and errands.
Ardessa loved life. She enjoyed visiting the casino, playing bingo, and most of all, cooking. Her potato salad was legendary at summer gatherings, and her kale greens were a family favorite all year long. Watching her family enjoy her meals brought her the greatest joy.
She was adventurous in her younger years-riding motorcycles and traveling across the country in 18-wheelers with her first husband. Ardessa had a heart for children, welcoming ten foster children into her home and serving as a second mom to many more while rearing her own seven children. She also provided daycare and hosted summer camp for her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In 1999, she married the love of her life, Albert D. Deputy. Most recently, Ardessa rededicated her life to the Lord, and cherished attending Motherland Church in Wilmington with her daughter and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sons, George Jr., Carl Anthony, Robert Charles, and James; four brothers, Wilson, Joseph, Jr., Herschel, and Jerry Warren; and three sisters, Thelma Baynard, Mildred Caldwell, and Joyce Torres.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband, Albert Deputy; sons, Donald and Michael Loper; daughter, Pasqulita Jackson (Joshua); granddaughter she raised, Tamika Brinkley; siblings, Clementine Knighton (Charles), Rose Carter, Marine Warren, and Charles Warren (Gayle); 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; her "white daughter" Sarah Brown; lifelong best friend Wanda Harmon (John); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday May 22, 2025 at Holy Trinity Church of the Living God, 425 W Division St. Dover DE 19904 where there will be a viewing from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Thursday. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery, Dover. Online condolences may be made via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
