Aretha Miles

Mother Aretha M. Mitchell-Miles, 83, of Jesup, Ga. passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025 at her residence following a lengthy illness. She was born on April 25, 1942 to the late, Isaiah Mitchell and Florene Key-Mitchell in Moultrie, Ga. (Miller County).
Aretha was educated in the public school system of Tift County, Ga. and was employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant with Wayne Memorial Hospital before retiring after (32) years of service. Aretha was a member of and served as a Mother of Greater Saint James Temple of the Apostolic Faith, Inc., where she previously served on the usher board, in the choir and on the kitchen committee. She was always willing to help in any capacity needed. In her free time, she enjoyed exercising, walking her dogs, gardening, cooking (baking) and spending time with her family.
Aretha was preceded in death by both parents, Isaiah and Florene Mitchell; her daughters, Dorothy E. Miles-Rogers and Louise Boquia; her sister, Mary D. Mitchell; her brothers, John Wesley Prather, Alfonzo Mitchell, Milton Mitchell, Willie C. Mitchell and K. C. Mitchell.
Those left to cherish her memory: her loving and devoted husband, just a few days short of (65) years, Deacon Jessie Miles, Jesup, Ga.; two sons, Jessie (Eva Mae) Miles, Jr., Atlanta, Ga. and Robert Wesley (Mae) Miles, Sr., Syracuse, NY; her sisters, Evangelist Dorothy (Bishop John) Myers, Montgomery, Alabama and Pastor Havannah Green, Jesup, Ga.; her sister in-law, Blanche N. Miles, Orlando, Fl.; her brother in-law, Walter (Alice) Miles, Savannah, Ga.; (12) grandchildren; (5) great grandchildren; close friends, Lucille Rawls, Arlinda Attical and Martha Jones; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will certainly miss her.
A viewing will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025 at Royal Funeral Home Chapel, 247 W. Pine St., Jesup, Ga. from 5-7 pm.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Greater St. James Temple of the Apostolic Faith, Inc. @ 11:00 am. Remains will lie in state on Saturday, one hour prior to services.
Interment will be in Screven Cemetery.
