Arleen S. Kalo

Arleen S. Kalo, age 84, of Avon Lake, Ohio passed away peacefully, Thursday, February 15, 2024. She was born June 22, 1939, in Lorain, Ohio to parents Frank and Antonia (nee Macarol) Gulich.
Arleen was raised alongside her brother in Lorain. She was a 1957 graduate of Lorain High School and went on to earn her bachelor's degree at Bowling Green University. On August 8, 1962, she married her high school sweetheart, Richard Kalo, whom she began dating during their freshman year together in Lorain.
Arleen was an accomplished educator; she began her high school teaching career educating young ladies in skills such as short-hand and typing as training to become secretaries. As her career progressed, Arleen learned new skills to keep up with the changing trends in business education, transitioning into teaching computer skills, General Business, and Accounting. While in her 40's, Arleen returned to school and earned her master's degree from Cleveland State University in counseling. She taught for 25 years at Columbia High School, Columbia Station, OH, retiring from teaching in 1999.
Beyond the classroom, Arleen enjoyed hand crafts such as knitting, crocheting, and embroidery. She was an accomplished cook. She and Richard spent their retirement years traveling the world. They visited Ireland, Russia, and other countries in Europe, Canada, and sites throughout the United States. She and Richard also enjoyed competing in Bridge tournaments and learning to ballroom dance. Most importantly, Arleen was a dedicated mom, always giving her daughter, Lisa, love and support. She was a devoted grandma who cherished time with her granddaughter, Rebecca, and especially enjoyed taking her to lunch and shopping at Crocker Park.
Arleen is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Richard Kalo; loving daughter Lisa Lisi (Michael); cherished granddaughter Rebecca Grace Lisi; and her sisters-in-law Dolores Kalo, and Marie Grossman. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Frank Gulich.
