Obituary published on Legacy.com by Grace Memorial - Smith Chapel - Port Huron on Oct. 1, 2025.
Arlene Ann Kuhr, 93, of Port Huron, left this world to live again amongst her heavenly family and her savior, Jesus Christ, on July 23, 2025, at Mercy Village in Fort Gratiot. She was surrounded by the love of her family and enveloped by the gift of grace from God. She was born on November 10, 1931, in Detroit, Michigan, to her loving parents, Harold and Alice Milner. She was so happy to let her family know in her final hours that her dad, Harold, was there to escort her and welcome her home.
Arlene was an amazing woman who, in 1947, at the age of 16, married her first husband – and the father of her 8 children after dropping out of high school. A little more than a year later, at 17, she welcomed her first child. In 1967, at the age of 35, she welcomed the last of her 8 children. During those amazing years of triumph and tribulation, she lost her first son, Paul, at three months old. She adopted and raised 3 of her husband's nieces and 1 of his nephews and raised them as her own, with all the love she could possibly give them.
After divorcing her first husband in 1968, she met and married her Prince Charming, Carl (Fred) Kuhr in 1972 and happily integrated Fred's three daughters and one son into her life, her home and her heart. To save you the use of a calculator, that totals 16 children, 15 of which were the talk of the Colonial Woods subdivision – known as "Those Schultz/Kuhr Kids!"
At 37 years old, while raising and caring for 11 children, Arlene went back to school to earn her GED. Upon completion, and while working part time at Marwood Manor Nursing Home, she attended and graduated from SC4 as a registered nurse. (Read that again!) She worked at Port Huron Hospital (as it will always be known in our family) in the Intensive Care and Critical Care Unit until her retirement 26 years later.
Arlene's love story with her beloved husband, Fred Kuhr, was one for the ages. They were married on August 28, 1972, and together, they built a life filled with love, shared dreams, and an unwavering commitment to their family as well as the community. Fred preceded her in death on November 6, 2015.
Arlene's impact extended beyond her family, as she was an active member of her church, St. John's UCC, and many local and private charitable endeavors - always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Her kindness was a gentle ripple that turned into waves of goodwill, affecting all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She is survived by her children, Sandi and Fred Hayes, Jim and Gail Schultz, Regina Wells, Nancy LeBouef, Kim Kuhr, Tom Schultz, Helene and Curt Pillsbury, Carla and Chris Schultz, Brian and Dixie Schultz, Fred Kuhr III, Stephen and Pam Schultz; Sons-in-law Greg Hill, and Gary Arseneault; Her Sister, Nancy Ryan, many grandchildren, and many more great-grandchildren, and even two great-great grandchildren – as well as many nieces, and nephews.
Along with husband Fred, she was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Alice Milner; her son, Paul Schultz, her daughters Brenda Hubbell, Marsha Hill, Barbara Arseneault, and Yvonne Schultz, her brothers Jack Milner and Harold (Buck) Milner and more friends than one could count.
A celebration of Arlene's life will be held on August 16th, 2025 from 11am- 2pm at Grace Memorial - Smith Chapel, 1525 Hancock Street,
Port Huron, Michigan 48060, with visiting starting at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Canon, Tracie Little, will officiate. Interment will be held at Lakeside Cemetery at a later date.
