Irene Patricia Kessler

Irene P. Kessler, 91, of Emmett, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025. She was born in Detroit, March 1, 1934 to Charles and Ellen Newton.
She married Clair Kessler on Christmas Eve, 1949. The couple moved from Detroit to Emmett in 1957 and raised their seven children there. In 1973 they bought a small grocery and gas station. Irene ran Kessler's Korner until 1984. After selling the business, they started Kessler's Rentals, which Irene has managed for the past 41 years.
Irene was an artist, creating numerous paintings over the years. She was an avid flower gardener. In her later years, she cheerfully directed family members at planting time. Irene loved her dogs. In the 1960's she taught dog obedience classes for 4-H'ers. She also enjoyed golf, bowling, swimming, and dancing.
She is survived by her children, William (Kay) Kessler, Deborah (Louis) Flanigan, David (Cheryl) Kessler, Robert Kessler, Thomas (Kris) Kessler, and Michael (Richard Montgomery) Kessler, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great great grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband of seventy years Clair, her beloved daughter Jan Kessler, her parents, a sister Shirley McCullar, and her brother James Newton.
A gathering and viewing will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Grace Memorial-Smith Chapel, 1525 Hancock Street, Port Huron, MI 48060. Funeral services will be Friday, October 24, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Deacon Dennis Crimmins will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
