Arlie Smith, 83, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, April 18, 2025, at the Mercyone Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born June 4, 1941, in Allerton, Iowa, the son of Ora S. and Edna Hall Smith. Early on Arlie was the primary caregiver for his mother, brother and sister. He later went to work at Grismore Turkey Farm in Corydon, Iowa and then for Oskaloosa Foods in Oskaloosa for many years. He worked for a short time at Vermeer. He later returned to Oskaloosa and drove dump truck for Charles VanToorn for a few years before going to work for Eldon Zook Construction until his retirement in 2000. In addition to working full-time he helped his brother Cecil at his service stations.
His family includes his two nephews, Curt Smith of Oskaloosa and Chris (Brenda) Smith of Rome, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Doris Van Toorn and Dora Jean Smith; and three brothers, (Ora) Don Smith, Oris Dean Smith, and Cecil Smith.
As was Arlie's wish his body has been cremated. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the Lemons Cemetery in Lemons, Missouri. A Funeral procession will leave from the Bates Funeral Chapel at 8:15 A.M Saturday morning. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
