Connie Asher, age 75, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at the Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. Connie was born on July 8, 1949, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of John and Kathryn (Gruber) Van Arkel. She attended school in Oskaloosa and later received her GED from Indian Hills Community College. On October 29, 1966, she was united in marriage to Steve Lobberecht. They divorced years later. On August 7, 1971, she was united in marriage to Jack Asher in Rock Island, Illinois. Jack passed away in February of 2021.
Connie started out working at Easter Super value as a meat wrapper. She later went to work at Pizza Hut and Rolscreen. Lastly, she owned and operated her own sewing shop in Knoxville for several years. She enjoyed needle crafts, reading, sewing and collecting dolls and Boyds Bears.
She is survived by her children, Lisa (Shawn) Garrison of Knoxville and Steve Lobberecht of Independence, Missouri; grandchildren, Rachel (Carter) Bailey of Knoxville, Grant Garrison of Knoxville, Matthew Lobberecht of Knoxville and Sydney Lobberecht of New York. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and stepchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Asher, her parents; a son, Timothy Lobberecht and three brothers, Richard, Lawrence and Charles Van Arkel.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Molly Goodrich officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa, following services. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, beginning after 12:00 p.m. at the Bates Funeral with Connies family present from 5-7 p.m. to greet relatives and friends. Memorials may be made to the family.
