Arnold Hoffman Obituary
Arnold Hoffman was born in Riverton, Wyoming, to Casper and Martha (Hofferber) Hoffman on December 6, 1936. He had seven sisters and two brothers. He was the eighth child born to Martha and Casper.
Arnold lived most of his life in the Greeley area. He attended elementary schools in Greeley including Lincoln, West Ward (Franklin), Cameron, Delta, and Hazelton School. He attended junior high school at Meeker Junior High in Greeley, and Windsor Junior High in Windsor, Colorado.
In 1952 he went to live with his brother-in-law, Ed Wolfe and sister Gerry in Gill Colorado. He attended Gill High School and graduated in 1955. It was at high school where he met the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Donna Heidenreich.
At the inception of Aims Community College in Greeley, Arnold began his college career in the old Lincoln Building in east Greeley. It was the same place where he began his elementary education. Arnold attained Liberal Arts, Fire Science and Mid Management degrees, and was in one of the first graduation classes at Aims Community College. For a short period of time, he attended UNC in Greeley.
After spending two years in the United States Army, Arnold and Donna were married on November 8, 1957, at St. Paul's Congregational Church in Greeley. In 1964 their one and only child, Mindy was born.
In October 1959 he joined the Greeley Fire Department and spent the next twenty-eight and a half years with the department. He retired in March,1988 as Division Chief, Chief of Administrative Services.
Shortly after his retirement, Arnold and Donna moved to their new home in Surprise, Arizona. Together they enjoyed many years traveling throughout the country. In 2012, they celebrated their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary by going on a Hawaiian Cruise with their daughter, Mindy and her husband, Bill.
Arnold and Donna had been married for sixty-six years. Arnold always felt blessed to have such a wonderful and loving wife as Donna. They were, indeed, made in heaven for each other.
Arnold is survived by his wife Donna, daughter Mindy and her husband Bill Lamb, his sister, Elda Polera of San Diego, California, and little brother, Kenny Hoffman (Margit) of Fountain, Colorado. He is also survived by one special niece, Donna Jean Huff of Greeley, and a special nephew, Vernon Wolfe of Kersey, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law, Sadie Heidenreich, father-in-law, Alex Heidenreich, and six sisters: Ester (Ben) Strauch, Gerry (Ed) Wolfe, Ruth (Ben) Martin, Helen (Ken) Krum, Shirley (Bob) Sanders, Barbara Griffin, a special niece, Diane Wolfe, and of course, his special brother-in-law, Ed Wolfe.
Arnold was an avid golfer and played to a single digit handicap until just a few years ago. However, in all those years, he never had a hole-in-one.
Arnold will be laid to rest on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Camino Del Sol Cemetery 13738 W. Camino Del Sol Sun City West, AZ 85375 at 1:00pm

Arnold was one of the chief officers when I hired on the fire department. I remember him arriving to station 4 one day presenting me with an unscheduled performance review. There was a slight wage increase involved. He told me the male firefighter I hired on with at the same time's performance appraisal had resulted in slightly more pay than mine. He stated he would not have a woman making less than a man for doing the same job. That had to be the mid-late 1980's! It was nice to have his support. I'm glad he enjoyed a long happy retirement with his loving family.

When I was first hired in 1972 Arnold was my first Captain. He kept me on B Shift for years. I enjoyed working for him and he always set an example for what a public employee should represent. God bless the Hoffman family and rest in peace Arnold.

Arnold was a Division Chief when I was hired with GFD. I will always remember his easy going demeanor and his sense of humor. He never complained about my cooking. God bless you Chief Hoffman. -jb.
