Funeral Services for Mr. Arvid Jerry Carroll will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Hineston Tabernacle, with Reverend Jeffrey Scroggins officiating. Interment will follow in Fellowship Methodist Cemetery, Hineston, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Pineville.
Arvid Jerry Carroll, 85 years old, entered eternal rest peacefully on June 9, 2025, at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, LA, surrounded by his family.
Jerry was born July 1, 1939, in a farmhouse in Grand Saline, Texas, to the union of Pastor Isaac M. Carroll and Sarah Jessie Greer Carroll. He graduated from Oak Hill High School in Hineston, Louisiana, class of 1957.
Jerry married Charlotte Dean Johnson on December 23, 1961. Just shy of forty-five wonderful years together, Charlotte passed away on December 2, 2006. Jerry said that he felt like a part of him died that day too.
He was a welder by trade. He was also a proud Veteran of the United States Army serving as Specialist 5 (SP5), as well as a self-proclaimed cowboy! He took great pride in his talent and creativity with special welding projects. After retirement, he was honored to serve Hineston Tabernacle Church daily.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Pastor Isaac M. Carroll and Sarah Jessie Greer Carroll; his loving wife, Charlotte Johnson Carroll; his brother, Pastor Paul Carroll; and his sister, Margaret Carroll Bonnette.
Jerry is survived by his sister, Esther Priscilla Vaughan; his children, Rodney (Theresa) Carroll, Roger (Stephanie) Carroll, and Charla Renee (Nicolas) Gathers; his eight grandchildren, Rusty (Kristen) Carroll, Haley (Austin) Stalsby, Cobey (Brianna) Carroll, Shalane (Cody) Holt, Robert (Toni) Bullard, Amanda (Edgar) San Vicente, Ty (Brentny) Gathers, and Cris Gathers; and his seventeen great-grandchildren, Charlotte Elaine, Kainan, Khloe, Elijah, Paislee, Bryor, Drake, Aubrey, Jayden, Taylon, Gavin, Beau, Jaxton, Kason, Charlotte Annette, Adair, and Lucas.
Jerry is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a multitude of friends spanning the entire world, along with his cherished church family of Hineston Tabernacle.
Jerry was known and appreciated far and wide for his daily scripture texts sent each morning encouraging us to start our day in God's Word. His strong faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation for his entire life. In his own words, Jerry was proud to share, "When I was eight years old, my dad led me in the sinner's prayer on a back porch in Rosepine, Louisiana." Next to his faith, his family was the most important part of his life. He loved family time when we were all together, and at these gatherings he could usually be found laughing and cutting up with a child, playing dominos, swapping pocket knives, or quietly sitting off to the side just watching everyone be together.
Jerry and his family spent twenty happy years in the Tulsa, Oklahoma, area. He loved recounting stories from that time, and the many friends they made while in Tulsa continued to be very dear to him throughout the years.
If you were not sure where he was, the first place to look was Hineston Tabernacle Church. He considered it a great honor to have the responsibility of his own set of keys to the building. Jerry was always prepared to open a door, turn on lights, or make sure the AC was running. He was truly a humble servant. His church family held a very special place in his heart.
In Jerry's own words, "God has been so very good to me. I have enjoyed many things. I have gotten to go to many places. I have gotten to meet a lot of people. I trust that I have touched some lives along the way for the good."
A time of visitation will be held at Hineston Tabernacle, on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at the church on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Hineston Tabernacle Church Missions.
