Funeral services for Lucille Jones Coates age 91 of Columbia will be held 10:00 AM Saturday July 22, 2023 from the Columbia chapel of Riser & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Stephen Fife and Rachel Denison officiating. Interment will follow in the Welcome Home Cemetery at Grayson. The Coates Family will host visitation on Friday July 21, 2023 at the funeral home from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Clydie Lucille Coates was born at Orange, Texas on August 11, 1931 to the union of her parents, Vannoy Clyde Jones and Adeline Melissa Sutton. She passed from this life on July 17, 2023 at her residence. She had fought a good fight, she finished her course and she kept the Faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband Norman D. Coates, Sr and her son Norman D. Coates, JR; her parents and her brother Kenneth Rollins. Lucille was valedictorian of her class at Oak Hill High School. She worked for many years with Dr. W. M. Causey at his hospital and clinic. She also worked at the State School in Columbia for many years. She retired from the State of Louisiana Group Benefits office. She was a faithful member of the First Methodist Church in Columbia.

Left to cherish the memories of ninety-one years are her son Ronnie Coates (Bonnie); her daughter: Suzanne Allen of New Iberia; her sister, Evelyn Dixon of Halletsville, Texas; her special friends, Rachel Denison and Jerry Hall; her beloved seven grandchildren, Alexis McClain, Christian Holmes, Jessica Nolan, Aleigh Coates, Brianna Phillips, Dacey Nolan and Zach Canterberry and fourteen great-grandchildren; and last but most important her beloved special dog, Freddie Mercury.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brock McClain, Christian Holmes, Zach Canterberry, Tyler Perot, Steve May, Brian Hall and Dewayne Dixon.

Men of the Columbia First Methodist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers any planned memorials may  be made to the First Methodist Church of Columbia building fund.
