He attended and graduated from Emmerich Manual High School where he lettered in basketball, track and cross country. It was there that he met the love of his life Geneva Mae Coleman and on February 5, 1949 in front of family and friends they professed their love for one another in marriage. They were married 76 years until death departed them. Geneva and Arvine had 4 children, Steven, Susan, Amy and Scott. Arvine and Geneva are members of Center Grove Church in Greenwood and attended faithfully until health issues made it no longer possible.
Arvine loved to go boating, fishing, golfing, and bowling but his greatest love was spending time with his family. He loved family get-togethers and reunions and was always the life of the party!
Survivors include his wife of 76 years Geneva, son Steve Raker (Donna), daughters Susan Wiseman (Tom) and Amy Vaughn, 11 grandchildren, Doug Raker (Jill), Chris Raker (Kelly), Ryan Wiseman (Andreia), Eric Wiseman (Michelle), Rebecca Miller, Jason Brown (Emily), Jodi Lash, Jamie Marocco (Anthony), Kristin Sauer (Bryan), Amy Vaughn, and Eric Vaughn (Nicole), 34 great-grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Louise Raker, son Scott Curtis Raker, son-in-law Bryan D. Vaughn, brothers Fred, Ray, Richard and Charles Raker and sister Carolyn Nordholt.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org/indiana/
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Chapel in Otterbein Senior Life, 1070 W. Jefferson St. Franklin IN, September 6, 2025 at 11:00 AM.
