Asa R. LaFary, age 81 of Bargersville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, September 18, 2024 at home with his loving wife and daughter by his side.
Asa was born in Morgan County on January 27, 1943, to his parents, the late Omer I. and Inez H. (Gerholdt) LaFary. He served as a Seaman on the USS Prairie Destroyer Tender of the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Asa was honorably discharged on January 28, 1965. He worked for over 20 years as a truck driver before getting into home construction. He retired in 1996 as a Construction Supervisor for Trinity Homes in Indianapolis.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 205 in Franklin. Asa enjoyed tending to his yard, woodworking and was a fan of NASCAR with his favorite driver being Dale Jarrett. He also enjoyed listening to gospel music, watching Gaither Gospel videos, and spending time with his grandchildren and family.
Besides his parents, Asa was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Seitz and brothers John, Richard, and Joe LaFary.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Linda (Reed) LaFary, whom he married on August 31, 1968 at Fair Haven Christian Church in Trafalgar. Asa is also survived by his daughter, Donna (Dan) Bryant of Lady Lake, FL; grandchildren, Darrin (Mia) Bryant of Paragon and Briana (Matthew) Cooley of Paragon; sisters, Becky Pierce of Nineveh, Dorothy Brown of Whiteland, and Jean Blackwell of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews.
Pastor Brian Clark will conduct a funeral service on Monday, September 23rd at 1 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Harris Cemetery with Military Rites presented by the United States Navy and the Franklin Honor Guards will be at Harris Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be sent in memory of Asa to the Fair Haven Christian Church, 1476 W. 300 S. Franklin, IN 46131.
