Audrey Jean Griffith, 89, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, passed into the arms of our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Bellaire at Stone Port. Born December 15, 1934, in the Mountain Valley community of Rockingham County, she was the daughter of the late Grover and Stella Martz Phillips.
Mrs. Griffith was a 1952 graduate of Harrisonburg High School and a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church.
She and her husband owned and operated a successful karting business for over 50 years until their retirement. In 1997, Audrey was inducted into the World Karting Association Hall of Fame. She loved attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events and she and her husband were a fixture at both Harrisonburg and Spotswood football games for many years. Her inviting and friendly smile was one of her most enduring qualities.
On January 24, 1953, she married her soulmate, Benjamin Ray Griffith, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Zanda Griffith of Harrisonburg; a son, Dennis Griffith and wife, Joyce of Mooresville, North Carolina; daughter-in-law, Jodi Griffith of Harrisonburg; seven grandchildren, Kristina Griffith-Dokken and husband, Chad, Dusty Dean, Stacey Griffith- Miller and wife, Kristen Miller, Todd Griffith and wife Mindi, Zack Dean and wife Carolyn, Benjamin Griffith, and Tyler Dean, and seven great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Charlotte Ulm, Madison Claire Ulm, Jo Anthony Miller, Jaxson Aaron Miller, Olivia Grace Griffith, Caroline Rose Griffith, and Violet Avery Griffith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Aaron Griffith and brother, Donald Phillips.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with the Reverend Adam Blagg officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
