Audrey M. Ross passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Royal Oaks, California, on August 11, 2025. She was born to Charles T. Schell and Marguerite N. Schell in the home her father had built in Salinas, California. She had three brothers (Lester, Frank, and Leonard) and three sisters (Frances, Nevera, and Charlene) all of whom she outlived.
Not long after her birth, the Schell family made the short move to what is now the community of Royal Oaks, on San Miguel Canyon Road, where she and her siblings were raised. Though she did not enjoy school, she loved learning and quickly earned enough credits to graduate high school early.
After turning 18, she married her high school sweetheart, and together they raised three sons and one daughter. Audrey "couldn't even kill a squirrel," yet she was jokingly called "The Pistol Packin' Momma" by her loved ones when she occasionally hauled out her "Daddy's Pistol" to protect the family ranch-and she could "lick her weight in wildcats" when required. She was creative, resourceful, and a natural problem solver. Audrey was a dutiful daughter, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She wore many hats, she was a rancher's wife, Sunday school teacher, church librarian, and bookkeeper for their family ranch and livestock feed company. She was a devout Christian who loved God wholeheartedly. Her body may have prevented her from physically attending church services but that could not stop her spirit, she loved watching services on the SBN channel every Sunday.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Leroy Ross, and her eldest son, Steven L. Ross. She is survived by two sons and one daughter: Rory L. Ross, Leon T. Ross, and Annette M. Buergler. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Bryan Ross, Joshua Ross, Kevin Ross, Russell Ross, Amberle Jones, Tory Ross, Kimberly Coffey, and Zachary Ross, and eleven great-grandchildren: Isabeau Ross, Cai Ross, Trent Ross, Emalee Ross, Daisy Ross, Lillian Ross, Natalee Ross, Violet Ross, Korra Coffey, Connor Coffey, and Oakley Ross.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park.
