Our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at The Lodge in North Ogden, Utah. He was born on March 12, 1933, in Tremonton, Utah, to Tolman and Maudell Seager Burke. He was raised in Honeyville, Utah, and has been a resident of Brigham City for 63 years and most recently resided at The Lodge in North Ogden for 2 years.
Reed attended Honeyville Elementary School and Box Elder Junior High School. He graduated from Box Elder High School in 1951. He joined the United States Air Force in February 1952. His Air Force career spanned over 41 years, including both active duty and reserve time. He retired from the Air Force in 1993 at the rank of Major.
Reed married a beautiful Box Elder High School Business Teacher, Barbara Swenson, in the Salt Lake Temple, on June 3, 1957. To this union they were blessed with four children: Alan, Marianne, Susan, and Paul.
He graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Math education and later earned a Masters Degree. He spent his career in Box Elder School District at Box Elder High School for 34 years. He also served as President of the BE Education Association and as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Utah Education Association for 6 years. He valued the role of an educator and expressed this through his professional appearance and classroom standards.
Reed was a High Priest and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Throughout his life, he served diligently in many positions including Young Men's President, Elder's Quorum President, High Priest President, Activity Chair, Counselor in the Bishopric, Sunday School Teacher, Primary Teacher, and Stake Missionary.
Reed loved his home and yard. He was very proud of his beautiful flower gardens and spent countless hours making them a showpiece for all to enjoy. His home was a haven for his family and became the gathering place for family activities that he and mom enjoyed. Dad loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and found joy in attending sporting events, dance recitals, and countless other events.
He is survived by his children: Alan (Teri Hogenson) Burke, Marianne (Dale) Rushton, Susan (Jon) Stucky, Paul (Darcy) Burke; 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Barbara; his parents; sisters: Diane and Gayle (Ferrell) Peters; great-grandson Maverik Ray.
The family would like to give special thanks to extended family, friends, and Beecher Avenue neighbors for their love and support. A heartfelt thank you to the staff and CNA's at The Lodge in North Ogden. Thank you for caring for and loving dad.

Karla Beecher

June 24, 2024

We know both Brother and Sister Burke well. What great people! Mr. Burke has been on of my favorites since 9th grade Algebra class. He became our class Dad so we had close contact all through high school, BEHS class of '65. He was always so supportive and so positive. We are blessed to have known both of them and send our condolences and best wishes to their family. Love, Karla Kimber Beecher and Reed Beecher
