Azalee Barbour Obituary
Azalee Holland Barbour, 99, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025, in Miramar, Florida. Born on August 22, 1926, in Mebane, North Carolina to Buddy and Minnie Holland, she lived a long and fulfilling life marked by dedication to her work, her family, her faith, and her many passions.
Azalee began working at the local Mebane Movie Theater while attending high school. Her ambition and determination led her to Burlington, where she attended Burlington Business College. Upon graduation she went to work at Carolina Casualty Insurance Company for a number of years before leaving public work to start her family. Following the birth of her children she continued her career as a bookkeeper and secretary at May Memorial Library. There she served for 22 years until her retirement. Her commitment to excellence and quiet diligence left a lasting impression on those who worked alongside her.
From her earliest days in Burlington, Azalee developed lifelong friendships with school and business acquaintances, as well as community contacts with her outgoing personality. She enjoyed the company of her immediate and extended family and hosting holiday gatherings. Throughout her life she appreciated the dramatic and fashion arts and encouraged her children in their natural talents.
Faith played an important role in Azalee's life. When she moved to Burlington in her early twenties, she became a member of Davis Street United Methodist Church. She remained an active volunteer in her church community for many years until she was no longer able to drive.
After retiring, Azalee discovered a love for golf-a passion that brought her great joy and many cherished memories with friends and family on the course. She also had a deep appreciation for the arts. A talented painter, Azalee was an active member of the Burlington Artist League and found fulfillment in expressing herself through artwork.
Azalee was preceded in death by her parents, Buddy and Minnie Holland; her husband, George Barbour; and her sisters Cleta McGuire and Ola Hudson.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: George Barbour Jr. of Miramar, Florida; Kelly Waddel of Burlington; Susan Caras and son-in-law Pete of Suwanee, Georgia; as well as by her grandchildren Daniel Shue of Asheboro; and Bridgette Luna (Jason) of North York, Canada.
Azalee's life was one of persevering strength and enduring grace. May her memory inspire those who knew and loved her.
