Barbara Ann Bear, longtime proprietor of the Gold Mine Saloon, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, after a brief illness. She was 87. Barbara was the beloved mother of Michael D. Brinks, Jr. (Marcelle) and David A. Brinks (Janelle), and their sister Kathy. She was the loving grandmother of Timothy Brinks and Julie Brinks, Mina, Blaise, and Issa Brinks, and Nicole Armand. Twice widowed, Barbara was preceded in death by her devoted husbands, Francis “Gene” Evanoff and Leland “Red” Shores, Jr. She was the daughter of the late Dave Bear Sr. and the late Ethel Stoufflet Bear, and the sister of the late Dave Bear Jr., the late Elizabeth Bear, Thomas Bear, Dr. Johnny R. Bear, Betty Elder, and the late Everett A. Bear. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by her numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. The family expresses special appreciation to her caregivers, Valdivina Toledo, Maria Martins, and Emilia Miranda.

Barbara was born in Golden Meadow in 1938 and grew up in Marrero. She was a graduate of West Jefferson High School, Class of 1956. She was a longtime resident of Algiers and later Bush, LA. Barbara had a generous heart and was an incredible cook, and she loved hosting large holiday gatherings for friends and extended family in her home. On weekend nights, she could be found working the door at the Gold Mine Saloon in the French Quarter, which she owned and operated for over four decades. Barbara never met a stranger and always enjoyed hearing stories of the relationships and memories made there.  She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation and memorial service at First Baptist Church of New Orleans, 5290 Canal Blvd. in New Orleans on Thursday, January 8, 2026, with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the memorial service at 10:30 a.m., with inurnment to immediately follow at Metairie Cemetery.
