Barbara Ann Burns (nee Callanan), 84, of Winston-Salem, NC passed away peacefully on July 18th, 2025 after visiting with her loving family.
Barbara created a warm and caring home for her many children. She dedicated her life to them. She taught her family the importance of kindness and generosity.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, James, her children, Patricia Graves (Yale), Stephen (Ellen), William (Megan), and Jeremiah (Alexis), her seven grandchildren, Kaitlin McHugh (Conor), Stephen (Christina), Edward (Clayborne), Shelby Vanfleteren (Michael), James Graves, Drew Graves, and Grace Graves Miller (Ryan), as well as 8 great grandchildren - Mariella, Robinson, Maxwell, Rosalyn, Jackson, Cyril, Charlotte, and Ward. She is also survived by two of her sisters, Theresa Coleman (Bart) and Rita Traynor (Jim) and her in-laws, Mary Jane Brennan, Pat Albanese (Tony), and Tom Burns (Cathe) and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two of her sisters, Mary Mallon (Bill) and Frances Wilbur (Lou), five of her sons - James, Michael, Robert, Thomas, and Patrick, and her grandson, Michael.
Barbara was a faithful mother of 8 boys, 5 of whom had muscular dystrophy. She was a wonderful, hardworking, and nurturing mother in a very challenging life. She possessed a strength of spirit and a sense of humor which helped her through the difficult times. She would want us to shed a few tears and then go on to remember her with joy.
A visitation was held on Tuesday July 22nd at Salem Funeral Home, in Winston-Salem, NC. A funeral mass was held on July 23rd at Holy Family Catholic Church in NC.
There will be a memorial visitation at Paul Ippolito Berkeley Memorial, 646 Springfield Ave, Berkeley Heights, NJ on August 12, 2025 from 1:00-3:00 PM.
