Barbara Ann Ellzey, daughter of Lee William and Alberta Maxine (Goudy) Lucas, was born July 29, 1951, in Carthage, Missouri and left the troubles of this world behind on February 1, 2025, also in Carthage, Missouri, at the age of seventy-three years.
On July 22, 1987, Barbara was united in marriage with Carroll Dean Ellzey. Together they shared thirty years of laughter and memories, prior to Carroll's passing on November 9, 2017.
Although her top priority was tending to the needs of her family, Barbara also worked outside her home. She was the manager at Ted Williams Service Station, where she was also the cook and a waitress for several years. She also worked as a cook at Fuggitt's Restaurant. Later she worked at Penn Enterprise at Ft. Leonard Wood, the laundry service for soldiers and finally she worked on the assembly line at a mattress company. Those who worked with her over the years respected her determination and strong work ethic. She eventually stopped working to care for her husband, Carroll, as his health was failing.
In her free time, Barbara loved bird watching, especially the hummingbirds. She loved all animals and couldn't bare the thought of them going hungry. She would often empty her own food cabinets, just to make sure the animals and wildlife could eat. Even in the most recent years, she had a special way with animals. Her hospice nurses even referred to her as "Snow White."
In younger years, she also enjoyed fishing. However, time spent with her family is what she treasured most.
Barbara is survived by one son, Wesley Alvin Ellzey and his wife Laura of Richland, MO; two step-daughters, T.J. Sisco and her husband Dale of Lebanon, MO and Rose Becker and her husband Howard of San Diego, CA; two brothers, Larry Lucas of Carthage, MO and David Lucas of Joplin, MO; three sisters, Ruth Ellen Lucas of Joplin, MO, Carol Sue Eckart and her husband Steve of Versailles and Sharon Kay Vaught and her husband Calvin of Carthage, MO; ten grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Brooke, Tisha, Tiffany, Tena, Jadyn, Sierra, Samantha, Chad, Daniel and Christina; several great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Those preceding her in death include her parents; her husband Carroll Dean Ellzey, who passed away on November 9, 2017; one son, Billy Joe Ellzey and one step-son, Timmy Dean Ellzey; one step-daughter, Tene Ellzey; four brothers, Jerry, Terry, Albert Lee and Bobby Joe Lucas.
Those who knew Barbara will forever cherish the time they shared together. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Memorials have been have been suggested in memory of Barbara to St. Luke's Memory Care Ward.
