Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wiley Funeral Home - Glen Rose on Feb. 18, 2025.
Mom was so proud of her home and loved our family farm. My grandpa poured the foundation of their first house on the farm in 1953, which Barry and his wife, Jeannie, live in today. Mom lived right across the driveway in the second house my grandpa built soon after she and her siblings graduated high school and moved out. She, her brother, J.E., and her sister, Pat, all helped my grandma and grandpa clear the land that began the homestead. She graduated from Glen Rose High School and attended Tarleton State University. She was an entrepreneur who operated Red & White Superette near downtown Glen Rose for many years and later partnered with her mother, LaVoyce, and her sister, Pat, in establishing and operating Cedar Ridge RV Park, which is adjacent to the family farm. Mom was an avid reader who loved mystery, thriller, and detective-related novels. She often checked out ten books at a time from our local library and would whittle the stack down to nothing in a very short amount of time. She loved the farm, looking out the windows and watching the birds, squirrels, cows, and deer. Mom loved to look at the flowers, particularly the red and yellow roses that grew on the farm. She was very knowledgeable about the different species of birds, plants, snakes, trees, bushes, and insects that visit her yard occasionally. With technology, Mom loved to send and receive text messages on her phone. In particular, she loved being in a group text with her cousins, Quata and Vicki, where they would chatter about anything and everything. Mom was so great in so many ways that I can't possibly describe her in a way that would do her justice. Mom was always there for my brother and me. Through thick and thin, good times and bad times, Mom always loved us and cared very deeply about us and her entire family. She was the best. I have always believed that if you keep your loved ones in your heart and in your mind, they never really leave you. Mom always said she was lucky to have sons like us and a great family that loved each other, but in fact, we were the lucky ones to have her. Mom will be dearly missed, but we know that she is having a ball seeing our family members who have left this world before us.
