Barbara “Cuma” Hanley, 84, of Kingston, NY, formerly of Ft. Myers, FL, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025 of natural causes. She was born on March 14, 1941 in Kingston, NY, the daughter of the late Walter and Pearl (McConvey) Hanley. She was a graduate of Kingston High School, class of 1959.
Barbara was married to Donald Schick who passed away in 1971. Prior to moving to Florida, Barbara drove for Arthur F. Mulligan Bus Company. She later became Operations Supervisor for Lee County Board of County Commissioners in Fort Myers, FL. Barbara was an expert bowler and member of the Lee County Women’s Bowling Association 600 Club, throwing multiple perfect games in her time on the lanes.
Barbara was quiet and loving with a subtle and insightful sense of humor. Her laughter could lift those around her. She loved to drive, the longer the ride the better and drove professionally for several years. She had a love of shellfish and carefully cooked BBQ. She was an animal lover and fond of the pets of friends and family. She enjoyed feeding wild birds, hummingbirds, and especially loved the company of our Bianca the blue and gold Macaw. She especially loved to see the cardinals visit when landing near her window, reminding her of lost loved ones. Her presence was always comforting, welcomed and cherished by her goddaughter's family & friends in New York.
She is survived by her goddaughter Linda Galizia Casciaro and her husband Frank. In addition to the love of her life, husband Donald Schick and parents, she is predeceased by her many siblings, blood and adopted.
