Barbara Kapple Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McMurrough Funeral Chapel - Libertyville on Jan. 20, 2026.
Barbara L. Kapple, 83, a longtime Lake County resident, passed away peacefully on the night of Thursday January 15, 2026, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly. A lifelong learner, Barbara was a graduate of St. Norbert's Catholic School and Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside where she received a degree in Sociology. Soon after, she married the love of her life, Frank T. Kapple, and together they built a home and a life in Libertyville, raising their five sons.

Once her children were grown, Barbara's innate desire to care for others led her back to the classroom. She earned a Master's degree in Psychology from Benedictine University, beginning a meaningful second chapter as a social worker. Over the years, she touched many lives through her work at St. Joseph Parish and Lake Forest Place, eventually serving as a compassionate bereavement minister at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Gurnee. She leaves behind a legacy of service, faith, and devotion to her family.

Barbara is survived by her five sons: Brian (Wendy), Frank (Linda), Mark (Anne), Richard (Nadine) and Patrick; 10 grandchildren: Mackenzie (Jaren), Joseph, Owen (Alexandra), Margaret, Riley Lynn, Luke, Penelope, Marlow, Henry, Maximilian; her great-grandchildren, Miles, and Charley Mae; her sister Sylvia and nephew Robert. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Helene Simgielski and her husband Frank Kapple.

Visitation for Barbara will be held from 9:15 to 10:00 AM on Saturday January 24th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E Maple Ave., Libertyville with a funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials made to the St. Norbert's School Scholarship Fund www.stnorbertschool.org/scholarship-fund would be greatly appreciated. Barbara was the consummate wife, mother and friend. She always placed others before herself.
Connie's and Barb's friendship began at St Norbert's School. It continued through Glenbrook North and into married life. Jim met Barb through, the love of her life, Frank Kapple. They were dormmates at Notre Dame in 1959.
We shared the joys and trials of married life and raising our sons. That bond continues to this day. The Kapple and Hughes boys maintain a closeness, fostered on the Canada fishing trips.
The memories of laughter and fun, with Barb and Frank, are too many to include.
In our later years, Barb was always there to guide and console us through hard times. We loved her.
She will truly be missed for the endearing person she was. Heaven gains a noble addition.

Rest in peace, Connie and Jim Hughes

I am grateful to have had Auntie Barb and Uncle Frank as my Godmother and Godfather. Two of the most wonderful people I have known. Auntie Barb, I will miss your smile and your voice and your consistent reminding to "stay out of trouble". I thank our Lord for your presence and contribution to my life and am especially happy I was able to spend some time with you the past couple of years.
Sending hugs to all the Kapple boys and families.
With love,
Darren Maturi and Family
