Barbara J. McCumber, 68, of Cortland, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Select Specialty Hospital in Boardman after an unexpected illness.
Barbara was born on August 18, 1956, in Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter to the late Gordon and Marjorie (Knuth) Hopes.
Barbara's educational journey began at Liberty High School, from which she graduated in 1974. She continued her studies at Youngstown State University, where she not only earned her Bachelor's degree but also excelled as a member of the swim team. Beyond her professional and academic achievements, Barbara possessed a musical soul. As a member of Howland United Methodist Church, she graced the choir with her beautiful voice, sharing her love for music with her community. Additionally, her dedication to the Warren Civic Chorus highlighted her passion for singing and performance.
For over 40 years, Barbara dedicated herself to her career as a Medical Laboratory Technologist at Trumbull Memorial Hospital, where her unwavering commitment to her work made a lasting impact.
She found joy in simple pleasures; Barbara adored gardening, playing the piano, and diving into the pages of a good book. But her greatest joy of all was spending time with her grandchildren.
Barbara leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Stephen McCumber; who she married January 31, 1986; her daughter, Lauren McCumber; her son, Gregory (Michelle) McCumber ; her sister, Judy Smith and grandchildren, Hawk and Liv.
She is predeceased by her sister, Karen Razo.
Visitation will be held at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, on Wednesday, June 18th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 7:00 PM.
Barbara will be laid to rest at Hubbard Union Cemetery.
Barbara J. McCumber will forever be remembered for her kindness, her laughter, and her unwavering love for family and friends.
