Barbara Larraine Wells, 82, devoted wife of 62 years to Richard Duff Wells, overcame her long fought battle with Alzheimer's disease on Monday, August 21, 2023.
Born and raised in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Wilton "Bubba" and Margie Adams Lyles.
Barbara and Duff met while both were at Wade's Restaurant while dining with friends. As they were leaving, Duff "saved" her from talking with another, and they were inseparable ever since. They married at Drayton Baptist Church in February of 1961.
Barbara graduated from Converse College with a Bachelor's of Art in elementary and middle school education. She worked as an elementary school teacher for many years. She had a special love and talent for educating children.
She was an amazing daughter, wife, mother, and Granny. She loved her family and enjoyed shagging to Carolina beach music. She was an accomplished seamstress, making dresses and home goods for her daughters and granddaughter. She loved reading and watching the Atlanta Braves.
Her legacy will continue on in the hearts of her wonderful husband, Duff, and their two loving children, Susan "Suzy" Jones and husband, Scott, Karan Marsh and husband, Edward; two adoring grandchildren, Katie Ballaro and husband, Matt, and Eric Marsh; one precious great-grandson, Ernie Ballaro; and other loving family and friends.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Barbabra's name to the Alzheimers Foundation by visiting www.act.alz.org
