Barbara Sue Winget, age 86, of Georgetown, Texas, and most recently of
Lindale, Texas, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 8, 2026, surrounded by her children David, Chris, and Erin. She was born on August 31, 1939, in
Woodward, Oklahoma, to Virgil Junior Winget and Lietta Juanita Singhiser Winget.
Barbara graduated from Woodward High School in
Woodward, Oklahoma. She continued her education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, where she studied biology and chemistry. She later completed her medical technologist training in Elkhart, Indiana. She returned to school later in life and graduated from Concordia Lutheran College in Austin, Texas, earning her bachelor's degree in behavioral science at the age of 54.
Barbara worked as a medical technologist for the Texas State Health Department, where she was responsible for conducting newborn screening tests for babies born across the state. Her work contributed to the early identification of health conditions in children statewide.
Barbara was a woman of many talents and creative passions. She played both the piano and classical guitar, and she enjoyed quilting, embroidery, appliqué, and watercolor, crafting pieces that reflect her talent and artistry. She also had a fondness for antiquing, always drawn to items with history and character. Barbara was a devoted animal lover who cherished her pets deeply. She helped start Holy Russian New Martyrs Orthodox Mission in Georgetown, Texas. Barbara / Bobbie / Barb / Mom / Grammy / Gram - will be missed by so many who loved her. Her last wish was to be near her family and to tell us all that she loved us so very much. I am confident she felt surrounded by our love, and that she would say to each of us to:
"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've always imagined."
- Thoreau / Gram
