Barbara Young Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tippecanoe Funeral & Cremation Services on Dec. 16, 2025.
Barbara "Ellen" Young, a very caring and loving mother, grandmother, and retired nurse, passed away on December 13, 2025, at the age of 69. She was born on September 17, 1956, in Frankfort, Indiana, and was a resident of Dayton, Indiana at the time of her passing.

Ellen was a graduate of Clinton Central High School and proudly served as an LPN for over 20 years before retiring. Nursing was more than a career for her-it was a calling, and she gave her heart to every patient she cared for throughout her years of service.

She was deeply passionate about gardening and flowers. Her children shared that if they had to choose a symbol to represent their mother, it would be a bouquet of lilacs-her favorite flower. Each spring, Ellen could often be found in her yard planting flowers and preparing for the gardening season ahead. She also loved going to yard sales, where she found old treasures she could refurbish and make new again, a talent she was especially gifted at.

Ellen enjoyed thoughtful conversation and loved discussing deep topics such as spirituality, politics, and life's bigger questions. A devout Unitarian, she found comfort in listening to new age Christian music. She never missed an episode of Survivor, her favorite television show, and this season, having passed before the finale, her children will be watching it together in her honor.

Family was the center of Ellen's life. She was actively involved in her children's and grandchildren's lives and could be found at nearly every sporting event, cheering her grandchildren on as they grew. She was also well known for the Italian meals she lovingly prepared for her family-lasagna, vegetable lasagna, pasta, and linguine were favorites. Billy Joel's music often filled her home, a love she passed on to her children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Beverly and Kenneth Young; her sister, Janice Young; and her baby girl, whose loss she mourned throughout her life.

She is survived by her children: Carrie Moore of Kokomo IN, Stacie Bogan and her husband Daniel of Delphi, Indiana; Lindsey Moore of Lafayette, Indiana; and Adam Moore and his wife Molly of Frankfort, Indiana. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Kassia Ventura, Landon Alder, Kenzie Alder, Presley Alder, Jayden Petre, Gavin Frye, Alivia Moore, Liam Moore and her brother, Daniel Young of Indianapolis.

Ellen will be remembered for her compassion, her dedication to family, her love of flowers, and the many lives she touched through her nursing career and generous heart.

A private service will be held in the spring, when her family will honor her wishes of nurturing new life through the planting of a tree at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Lafayette, Indiana."

Barb was such a fixture in my life from grade school through high school. We played Barbie dolls together, explored her grandfather's many stones and geodes, her father would take us to Columbia park to picnic and swim. Nursing was a calling for us both. We lost contact with each other the past 10 years and I am saddened to hear of her passing. Condolences to Danny and her family. Please let me know of the tree planting this coming spring.

Barb "Ellen" was a very dear neighbor growing up. She was between my sister Sue and me in age and she was a cherished childhood friend of both of us. I am very sorry to hear of her passing. Deepest condolences to her children, grandchildren, etc. and to her brother Danny.
