Barclay Jay "B.J." Erk

Barclay (BJ) Erk, age 86, of Milton, Florida-a proud United States Air Force veteran-passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025, with his family by his side.

Born on December 4, 1938, in Richmond, Indiana to Rosanna (Sowers) and Willard Erk, BJ is predeceased by his parents and his beloved wife of 53 years, Anne (Davis) Erk. He is survived by his son, Chris (Claire) Erk of Niceville, FL; his three grandchildren, Stephen Erk of Pullman, WA, Matthew Erk of Raleigh, NC, and Laura Erk of Gainesville, FL; and his brother, Stan (Julie) Erk of Beavercreek, OH.

BJ served with distinction as a supply officer in the United States Air Force, completing two tours of duty in Vietnam and two in Thailand during the Vietnam War. He carried the spirit of service in every aspect of his life, cherishing the camaraderie, the travel, and the privilege of serving his country. His pride in his military service was evident every single day.

Following his career in the Air Force, BJ embraced civilian life with a diverse range of roles, including positions with Gateway Computers, Kmart, the City of West Palm Beach, and as a real estate agent, among others. He and Anne enjoyed traveling in their RV. In later years, he found joy in surfing the web and staying connected with friends and family through email. His loyal cat, Mr. C, was always close by-usually on his lap or curiously supervising his typing.

Above all, BJ was a devoted father and grandfather, taking immense pride in Chris, Claire, and his grandchildren. He loved hearing about their accomplishments, adventures, and the lives they were building.

Per his request, BJ will be cremated and his ashes scattered into the ocean at a later date with his family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America or Alaqua Animal Refuge.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to People's Hospice and the Opal at Bluewater Bay for the compassionate care provided during BJ's final days.
