Barry Jennings Phillips, 69, devoted father and grandfather, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025.
Born in Greenville, South Carolina, Barry was a son of the late James and Mary Jennings Phillips.
Barry was affectionately known as the "Mayor of Augusta Road" and took great pride in his Augusta Road community. He began working in his community at Parker Hardware at the young age of 15. In 1984, he went on to purchase the hardware store from Mr. Parker and proudly owned and operated it until 2001. After which, Barry went on to have a distinguished career with UPS for over 20 years.
In retirement, Barry enjoyed spending time and fellowship with his friends at Trinity Church of Greenville. He also enjoyed traveling, especially his trips to Colorado with his good friend, Ronald "Ronnie" Clement where he enjoyed riding his favorite horse, Smoky! Most of all, he loved spending time with his granddaughter, Riley.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, James Parker Phillips (Tara) and Hunter Jennings Phillips; mother of his sons, Catherine Ballenger Phillips; granddaughter, Riley Paige Phillips; and his brother, Ricky Lane Phillips.
In addition to his parents, Barry was preceded in death by his brother, James Edward Phillips.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at First Baptist Greenville. A reception will follow from 3:15 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Poinsett Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Trinity Church of Greenville, 100 Pete Hollis Blvd, Greenville, SC 29601.
