With deep love and fond remembrance, we announce the passing of Beatriz Castro Contreras, lovingly known as Tichi, who departed this life peacefully on August 3, 2025, at the age of 96. Beatriz was born on June 8, 1929, in the village of Cócorit, Sonora, to Alberto and Enriqueta Castro. At a young age, she carried with her the values of hard work, tradition, and family — values she would embody throughout her life. After marrying the love of her life, Manuel Contreras (predeceased), she made her home in Carmen, Arizona, where she lived for 64 years and raised her family. She spent the last 10 years of her life in Amado, Arizona, surrounded by those she loved. Beatriz was a devoted mother to her six children: Beatrice Olivas (Elias Olivas), Rosalia Contreras, Jo Aguirre (Francisco Aguirre), Martha Lundberg, Bel Contreras, and her beloved predeceased son Manuel Gorgonio Contreras (Maryann Contreras). Her legacy continues through her 17 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren, and 2 great-greatgreat-grandchildren, each of whom carries a part of her spirit forward. A homemaker by vocation, Beatriz was known far and wide for her handmade tortillas and tamales — recipes prepared with love and passed down through generations. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, a place of nourishment, laughter, and stories. Beyond the kitchen, she found joy in her garden, often seen whispering to her flowers, believing they bloomed better when spoken to. Beatriz’s life was one of quiet strength, boundless warmth, and enduring faith. She leaves behind a family rooted in her love and a community enriched by her kindness. Services will be held on August 16, 2025, at 10:30 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Tubac Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Ann's Catholic Church or the Southern Arizona Food Bank, in honor of Beatriz’s giving spirit.
