Benjamin E. Yates, 87, of Fayette City, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at home. The son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Ada Leona Fields Yates, he was born in N. Charleroi on January 16, 1938.
A lifelong resident of Fayette City, he was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed stock car races. Ben had been employed for 29 ½ years as a train engineer for Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, Monessen Plant, and later at Belle Vernon Area School District in the custodial department.
Survivors include, a daughter, Holly Buchanan of N. Wilkesboro, NC, a son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin and JoAnn Yates of Star Junction, three grandchildren, Joshua (Amber) Yates, Summer (Daniel) Epps, and Gurney (fiance Hannah) Buchanan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Louise Moats Yates on January 10, 2025.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 1 PM to 4 PM in the Ferguson Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 700 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon. 724-929-5300. www.FergusonFuneralHomeandCrematory.com. A funeral will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025 at 10 AM in the funeral home with Pastor Dan Waite officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Fayette City Alliance Church or Samaritan's Purse in Boone, NC.
