Benny D. Matlock

BENNY D. MATLOCK, 78, beloved husband of Reta Martin Matlock, passed away Sunday morning, May 12, 2024 in Aiken Regional Medical Centers surrounded by his loving family.

Born on September 30, 1945 in Tahlequah, OK, Benny was a son of the late Elmer D. and Catherine Gaylor Matlock.  He moved to Aiken County in the early 1950’s where he remained for the rest of his life.   He was a graduate of Aiken High School, Class of 1963.  Benny was a millwright and worked at Owens Corning Fiberglass before going to work with Quality Metal at Proctor & Gamble for a number of years.  He then worked at Olin Chemical before retiring.   An enthusiast of antique cars and motorcycles, Benny found great joy in traveling and camping adventures with his beloved wife Reta. He loved baseball and was a pitcher as a boy playing Dixie Youth Baseball.  He always watched the Atlanta Braves whenever he could.  He was a dedicated member of Hillcrest Baptist Church for many years and later Pine View Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to Reta, his wife of 57 years, include his son, Michael Matlock (Stephanie), Jackson, SC; his daughter, Kim Middlebrooks (Ken), Aiken; four grandchildren, Ashley Parrish (Jody), Jessica Matlock, Kenny Middlebrooks, Keaton Middlebrooks; a great-granddaughter, Maggie Parrish; brothers-in-law, Donald Holmes, Terry Hair; sister-in-law, Pam McKenzie and special friends, Ken and Gloria Yonce.  In addition to his parents, Benny was preceded in death by three sisters, Donna Holmes, Wanda Minick and Brenda Whitt.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, May 15th from 6 until 8 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be Thursday morning, May 16th at 11 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home with The Revs., Marion Britton and William Eaves officiating.   Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Ken Middlebrooks, Kenny Middlebrooks, Keaton Middlebrooks, Jody Parrish, Terry Hair and Randy Wilson.  Honorary Pallbearers are Ken Yonce and Dennis Glover.
