Bernard Clare Reed of North Adams, Michigan passed away on September 29, 2025 with family by his side in Ellenwood, Georgia. He was born on August 2, 1929 in North Adams, Michigan on the family farm. Bernard was proud to say he only had one address and one phone number for his entire life.
Bernard is survived by his wife of 74 years, Donna (Foulk) Reed; four children, Christine Reed, Gregory (Laurie) Reed, Rodney (Susan) Reed, and Bradley (Shelly) Reed; 12 grandchildren, Travis, Drew, Cameron, Jonathan, Elizabeth Gail, Aaron, Anna, Ashley, Lindsey, Carley, Sarah, and Nina; 20 great grandchildren; one brother, Russell (Nancy) Reed; and several nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
He was preceded in passing by his parents, Clifford W. and Nettie Marie (Swarthout) Reed; one brother, Clifford Hal Reed; and his aunt, Mary Swarthout.
Bernard was a member of the All-County All-Star Basketball team from Hillsdale. He enjoyed John Deere Tractors and roller-skating and also owned a 1929 Ford Model A, which was his pride and joy. In addition to farming, he also won awards for his abilities as a Tool and Die maker. Bernard was also a longtime member of the North Adams First Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee.
A funeral service to honor his life will be held at the North Adams First Baptist Church on Saturday, October 4, 2025 beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor John Poole and Pastor Joe Tassell officiating. Interment will follow at the Northlawn Cemetery in North Adams. The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in his memory to Freedom Farm Christian School. Please visit www.hamptonfuneralhomes.com to sign the guestbook and/or send the condolence to the family.
