Bernice E. “Bern” Bishop, 84, of Hermitage, formerly a longtime resident of Stowe Twp., PA, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, January 28, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with ALS.
Bern was born March 7, 1941, in Pittsburgh, PA, a daughter of the late Thomas and Ruth (Welsh) Burke. She was a 1959 graduate of Montour High School and later earned a bachelor's degree from Franciscan University.
Bern retired from Allegheny County, where she had worked as a payroll clerk at their Carnegie location. Previously, she taught elementary education at various parochial grade schools in Allegheny County.
The greatest joy of her life was becoming a grandmother. Bern loved supporting her grandchildren in their academic and athletic endeavors.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Bishop (Michelle), Hermitage, and Timothy Bishop, Austin, TX; a brother, James Burke, Pittsburgh, PA; a sister, Nancy Cline, Pittsburgh, PA; and five grandchildren, Troy, Rylie, Delaney, Brody, and Bennett Bishop.
In addition to her parents, Bern was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Burke.
In keeping with her wishes, a celebration of her life will be held amongst family at a later date.
