Beryl Schottenstein Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Epstein Memorial Chapel - Columbus on Dec. 13, 2024.
Beryl Schottenstein died peacefully on December 12th, 2024, at the age of 73 in Columbus, OH. She is preceded in death by her husband Garrett Witkowski, and parents Naomi (Gendel) Schottenstein and Bernard (Bernie) Schottenstein.
Beryl is survived by her partner Anthony Heath, her brother Harlan (Harley) Schottenstein of Columbus, OH; her sister Sheri Schottenstein Dollin of Phoenix, AZ; her brother Lawrence (Larry) Schottenstein and sister-in-law Amy Schottenstein of New Albany, OH. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews Mya, Tera, and Jessica of Los Angeles, CA; Reva (Eric) of Versailles, KT; Ariel, Benjamin (Nicole), Alyssa, and Katie of Columbus, OH.
Beryl was born on May 10th, 1951, in Columbus, OH. A child of the 60s, Beryl was a free spirit who lived life to the absolute fullest. She studied Fine Art at The Ohio State University before settling in her beloved Chicago, IL where she created a beautiful life with her husband Garrett. Beryl was an artist in every sense of the word. She was a painter, a poet, a writer of prose, and a free thinker who loved traveling (by plane, train, and sometimes hitchhiking). She maintained lifelong friendships with those she met on her journey.
Beryl overcame tremendous obstacles later in life and blossomed as she planted new roots in Columbus where she became a professional caregiver and companion. In her second act, she met her partner Tony who she often accompanied on long road trips. They loved live music and going to shows together. Beryl was a loyal and close sister to Harley, Sheri, and Larry who she talked to regularly, no matter what was going on in her life. She was an indisputably cool aunt to her many nieces and nephews, introducing them to music from The Fugees and Janet Jackson. She maintained close relationships with her countless cousins, aunts, uncles, and siblings. Beryl was particularly devoted to her aunt, Phyllis Schottenstein.
Beryl will be remembered for her creativity, compassion, and warmth.
Shiva will be observed on Monday evening from 6-9 PM at the home of Larry and Amy Schottenstein, 5043 Nottinghill Drive, New Albany
