Bettie Eaton Layman

Bettie Eaton Layman, 90, of Broadway, passed away November 10, 2025 at Staunton Post Acute and Rehab.

She was born on September 14, 1935 in Rockingham County and was a daughter of the late Daniel F. and Maryetta Yankey Eaton.

Bettie worked as a legal secretary at a prominent law firm in Harrisonburg for 50 years and also worked at Diversified Business Services as an accountant for Vernon Graber. She was a member of Linville Creek Church of the Brethren in Broadway where she also served in the Linville Creek Women's Fellowship. Bettie was also a member of the Harrisonburg Chapter of the Professional Secretaries International, Plains District Women's Club and National Home and Garden Club.

On August 8, 1955 she married Eldon Jacob Layman, of Harrisonburg, who survives.

Also surviving is a daughter; Elisa Layman, of Harrisonburg, two grandchildren; Sarah R. White, Jacob E. Victor, a sister; Shirley Jones, of Verona, a brother; David F. Eaton, of Lawrenceville, a niece; Karen Jones and a nephew; Dale Jones and wife Debbie.

She was preceded in death by a son; S. Ray Layman, three sisters; Helen Eaton Dean, Hazel C. Eaton, Juanita (Lillie) Nelson and a brother; Carl D. Eaton.

Pastor Nathan Hollenberg will conduct a memorial service on Saturday 2 PM at Linville Creek Church of the Brethren. Burial will be private at Linville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 PM at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway. The casket will be closed.
