Betty Frances Albertson, 94, of Newton, Iowa, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at her home on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
Betty was born on April 11, 1931, in Fairfield, Iowa, to Willis Alvie Smith and Francis Ellen (Marshall) Smith. On January 14, 1950, she was united in marriage to Earl Albertson II in Ottumwa, Iowa. They shared many years together before Earl's passing on October 17, 2002. After living in several towns across Iowa, Betty and Earl settled in Newton in the late 1950s, where she remained in the same home until her final days.
Betty worked as a paper carrier for the Newton Daily News until her retirement in 1994. She was a faithful member of Newton New Life Community Church of the Nazarene.
She enjoyed a full and active life, spending time with her family at bingo nights at the Newton VFW and Moose Lodge, traveling-especially to her favorite destination, Las Vegas-and watching figure 8 racing. Betty also loved reading, being outdoors, and watching television and movies. Some of her favorites included Highlander, Star Wars, Star Trek, Marvel films, Walker, Texas Ranger, crime dramas, and anything starring Johnny Depp, especially Pirates of the Caribbean. She also had a great love for music, and especially enjoyed going to watch her favorite band, Wikid Likir, and singer Paul Michael Davis.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Dave (Mary) Albertson of Grinnell, Betty Bird of Colfax, Carol Filson and Lorna Walls of Newton; daughter-in-law, Jan Albertson of Montezuma; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and even several great-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl; sons, Earl Martin Albertson III and Charles Albertson; son-in-law, Don Bird; brother, John (Deloris) Smith; along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Newton Union Cemetery. A potluck reception will follow at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home Tribute Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Betty Jo Lester to assist with funeral expenses and may be brought to the service or delivered to the funeral home.
