Betty J. (Wertman) Bleiler, 94, formerly of the Village of Shamrock and Mertztown, PA, and most recently a resident of Keystone Villa, Blandon, PA, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025 in Tower Health- Reading Hospital, West Reading, PA, just two days prior to her 95th birthday. She was the companion of Paul L. Hilbert who died on November 10, 2023, and was the widow of Donald W. Bleiler who died on April 30, 2011.
Born in Allentown, Betty was a daughter of the late Stanley M. and Lillie (Laudenslager) Wertman. Betty was employed by Giant, working at their Trexlertown grocery store for 14 years. Prior to that, Betty also worked at the former Marcus Manufacturing Co., Topton and other local sewing factories for nearly 50 years.
Betty was a faithful member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Topton, where she served on the church council and their compassionate crafters ministry, where her hands and heart worked tirelessly to bring comfort and joy to others. Betty was recently featured in an article in The Reading Eagle on October 1st, highlighting her accomplishment of sewing 300 dresses to be sent overseas to children in need. Betty was a member of the Longswamp Democratic Club, where she was the first female President. She enjoyed traveling, playing BINGO and was a member of the Topton Senior Citizens group.
Betty is survived by her two daughters, Donna (Bleiler), wife of Steve Grim, Alburtis, PA, and Sandra (Bleiler), wife of Joseph Peters, Laflin, PA; sister, Eleanore (Wertman), widow of Woodrow Bleiler, Topton; three grandchildren, Buffy, Andrew and Joey; and four great-grandchildren, Connor, Estella, Kolby, and Kaden.
Along with her husband Donald; companion Paul; and parents; Betty was predeceased by her siblings, Edna (Wertman) Wirth; two infant brothers and three infant sisters.
A funeral service to celebrate and honor Betty's life will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 121 S. Home Avenue, Topton, PA, with The Reverend Dr. Jeremiah Sassaman officiating. Burial will follow in Topton Union Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the church.
