LOUDONVILLE: Betty Jean Brightbill passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, in her home, surrounded by her family at the age of 98.
She was born on June 12, 1927, to parents Esley & Florence (Martin) Cleckner in Mansfield, Ohio. Jean graduated from Madison High School in 1945 and married Jack Brightbill on January 15, 1947. While working on the Brightbill farm and raising three boys, the pair was married for 29 years until Jack's passing in 1976.
Known as a wife, mother, and farmer, Jean worked hard on the farm up until her late 70s full-time. While Jack worked full-time, she took many of the farm duties on her own for several years.
Jean was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Loudonville, where she was a part of the quilting group. She also watched three generations of her family play baseball, and for two of those generations, she kept the scorebook.
She is survived by her sons, David (Gerry) Brightbill Robert (Sue) Brightbill, and James (Linda) Brightbill; her grandchildren, Mark (Samantha) Brightbill, Greg (Carly) Brightbill, Heather Brightbill, and David Jack (Laura) Brightbill; her great-grandchildren, Hudson, Brice, Alexis, Lacy, Matthew, Caleb, Payton, Hannah, Hayden, Christopher, Tonya, Blaze, her five step-great grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack (Mick) Brightbill, and her brother Richard Cleckner.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 25th at 11:00 AM in the Loudonville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Jean's memory may be made to Life Care Hospice, 1900 Akron Road, Wooster, OH 44691, or Loudonville Library, 122 E Main Street, Loudonville, OH 44842.
